Levent Altan, Executive Director
He has been Executive Director of Victim Support Europe since November 2014. Before joining Victim Support Europe, he worked as Principal Legal Advisor at Milieu Ltd, a multi-disciplinary consultancy, where led a team running various multi-country projects on justice and home affairs. He worked twice for the European Commission (DG Justice) as a national expert. During that time he was responsible for drafting and negotiating the EU Directive establishing minimum standards on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime. Prior to this, Levent had been working for around 10 years as a UK civil servant in the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office and the Cabinet Office.

An Verelst – Policy Officer
An joined VSE in July 2015 as our policy officer responsible for development of VSE policies, research and monitoring of victims’ rights.
An is a clinical psychologist and worked as a trauma psychologist in the war-affected region of Northern Uganda. She also set up and managed a victim support organisation offering psychosocial support for children and families affected by war-related violence in Eastern Congo. She obtained her PhD in Educational Sciences after conducting research on the psychological and social consequences in adolescent victims of sexual violence in (post)conflict settings.

Helene Heinrichs – Administrative Officer
Hélène is responsible for the administration of VSE head office, the management of the financial system, the organisation of events, the newsletter and other communication tasks.
She was the first permanent staff member in our Brussels Office. Before joining VSE in February 2012, she had been working for 5 years as an EU consultant for national and international NGOs focused on education and human rights.
