VSE talks victims rights with BBC Radio Oxford

By January 5, 2015February 1st, 2021News

With the EU Directive on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime coming into force later this year, BBC Radio Oxford interviewed Victim Support Europe’s Executive Director, Levent Altan on 2 January 2015, on the problems faced by victims and the changes the new legislation will bring.
Highlighting the different standards that victims face across Europe, Levent emphasised the potential for the new legislation to improve the situation of victims through improved training of practitioners, improved support, information provision, and protection in criminal proceedings.
However, he cautioned that real change would not be made simply through legislation but through genuine practical implementation – time will tell whether governments truly transpose this EU legislation with victims needs at the heart of their policies.
