25 May 2016: The Victim Support Europe Annual Conference 2016 is taking place today and tomorrow in the Muntgebouw in Utrecht, Netherlands. Theme of the conference is ‘Taking victim support to the next level: connect and commit’. The VSE 2016 conference focuses on two issues: what is necessary to connect the victim support organisations in Europe and what is necessary to bring victim support in the European Union to a higher level. The VSE 2016 Conference is organised in cooperation with Slachtofferhulp Nederland.

The VSE 2016 conference focuses on sharing new and proven practices that are relevant for the support to victims. 225 people will participate in the conference, both from the Netherlands and abroad. The participants are VSE members, chain partners, practioners, academics, policy makers, lawyers, victims, colleagues and other people interested in victim issues.

Programme
The conference consists of a number of plenary speakers and four series of workshops. Among the plenary speakers are Michèle Blom, Director-general for Sanctions and Protection of the ministry of Safety & Justice, Michèle De Kerckhove (President of INAVEM in France), Sue O’Sullivan (Federal Ombudsman for victims of crime in Canada), Jan van Zanen (Mayor of the City of Utrecht) and Marc Cerón (president of the Criminal Justice Platform and the European Confederation for Probation).
During the conference, 32 workshop sessions will be offered. A number of workshops focuses on the support for victims of specific types of crime, e.g. terrorism, human trafficking and sexual violence. There are also workshops on practical issues like fundraising for organisations that support victims and online communication. Other workshops focus on victims’ rights, legal issues and practical solutions for cross border victimisation.
